Measuring wheels are very useful. Under some circumstances, I would go for them, rather than for measuring tapes. However, one has to admit that, as useful and convenient measuring wheels may be, they have very limited applications. A tape measure on the other hand can perform any job, but it is quite inconvenient when it comes to measuring a distance longer than the length of your arm. In such a case, you need some body to hold them at one end while you stretch it to the other.

When people do a price comparison, they find that the cost of the regular unbranded tape measures is much lower than the branded tape measures. Branded tape measures also come with a guarantee or warranty for the tape measures. You need to check out the terms and conditions for the same and understand the points clearly.

Physical damage to the tape measures is often not included in the warranty. There are many other clauses in the terms and conditions that you need to understand very well. If there is a warranty attached to the tape measures or the measuring wheels, you will have to insist for either the bill or the warranty card or both. If there are any accessories attached with the tape measures or the measuring wheels, you will have to ensure that you take them along when you buy the tape measures or the measuring wheels.

At home, you can measure the carpet area or the length of a wall with a measuring wheel, but try measuring the length of the window with them! You cannot. You need to resort to old-fashioned tape measures for that. You can buy digital tape measures for easy reading, but neither the measuring wheels nor the high-tech laser measuring tapes can help you to measure a short distance. Laser measuring tapes are good if you have a target and so you can measure the length or even the height of the room with it, but nothing shorter.

Both the measuring wheels and tape measures come in different makes and prices. Branded products will naturally cost more. That does not mean unbranded products or less well-known brands are bad. They just cost less. Did you know that the measuring tapes and wheels make beautiful gifts too? Today some of them look so attractive that you may pick them as birthday or wedding presents for the ‘Do-It-Yourself” types. There is such a variety to choose from. Some tape measures are inexpensive enough to be given away as favors.

When you are buying a high-end product, make sure that it is covered by manufactures warranty. Damage from misuse is generally not covered by such a warranty, but otherwise the manufacturers are bound to replace the product, if there is any complaint. Also, see that all them, especially the measuring wheels are suitable for outdoor use. More established brands cost more and if you want cheaper gadgets, you can try the less established brands. It is neither the cost, nor the brand name, which matters. It is the quality of the products that counts most.
